13 March 2024 Etched single-sheet waveguide displays enable brand-worthy performance

Abstract
To enable all-day outdoor-compatible smart glasses that wow consumers, waveguide displays cannot be limited by traditional performance trade-offs within the low-index waveguide design space. Waveguides displays must simultaneously achieve great cosmetics, no distracting rainbow artifacts, high efficiencies of >1000 nits/lm and excellent image quality. The Photonics Platforms Business from Applied Materials will present advances in design and materials co-optimization that enable a step-function improvement in display performance, leveraging the already proven and scalable 300mm wafer fabrication equipment platform.
