Abstract
An interactive teaching program has been developed to allow an operator to define critical measurements in a manufactured part, both at the keyboard and with the joystick, from an image-processing terminal. The digitized input from a television scanner is smoothed and edges are located by routines set up and called from the teaching program. When acceptable results are returned, the parameters are incorporated in an automatic production measurement set referenced to a particular part. New parts can be defined and added to the system with brief training sessions, or repetitive measurements can be made of one type of part for production quality control.
