The exoplanet science field has been growing quite rapidly while there are still a lot of unknowns on the nature of planetary systems. It is quite complex and challenging to understand how the present-day world with planetary systems emerged and how our solar system is unique among them. In this talk, we review the recent advances in astronomical observations at various wavelengths, which have brought us new insights such as about the exoplanet populations, atmospheric characteristics, and formation processes of planetary systems. This includes the science results from Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array which has yielded detailed and often unexpected images of protoplanetary disks. We will also try to present researchers’ wishes for future observing capabilities.
