Abstract
With the rapid development of high-speed railways, power quality problems such as negative sequence current, harmonics, and energy consumption in traction power supply systems have become increasingly prominent. Using Railway Power Conditioner (RPC) to control power quality is a popular scheme to solve these problems. However, traditional RPC usually requires two step-down transformers and has the problems of a large footprint, low voltage level, and inability to use regenerative braking energy fully. In this paper, we adopt the RPC composed of the Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) to solve these problems of traditional RPC. Besides, we integrate a supercapacitor energy storage unit on the SubModule (SM) of the MMC, which makes up for the shortcomings of traditional RPC and recycles regenerative braking energy.
