Abstract
The automatic segmentation of pairs of mammograms has been investigated using texture features and a clustering algorithm. One hundred and twenty clinical mammograms (60 pairs) were digitized. These were divided into training and test sets of 40 and 80 films respectively. The test set was further divided into radiographically very dense breasts and breasts which were predominantly fatty. The results for the test set show that the segmentation algorithm is successful in segmenting accurately 23/30 (77%) of the pairs of fatty breasts into equivalent regions, but is unsuccessful in segmenting the very dense breasts.
