Abstract
The addition of alkali promoters to heterogeneous catalysts has been known to improve their properties; this is the case for dehydrogenation catalysts where alumina supported Pt is generally promoted with Li and K1. For this kind of reaction, addition of foreign cations was performed to neutralize support acidic sites which catalyze unwanted reactions such as cracking, isomerization and coke formation. But the promoters can also affect the supported metal properties and thus change its catalytic behavior and selectivity. In order to elucidate the variation of accessibility and/or electronic state of Pt supported on modified alumina, we have studied the influence of anions and cations on Pt properties for a series of catalysts by in-situ FTIR spectroscopy of chemisorbed CO.
