Abstract
A review of physical properties of passive sensors working in IR and millimetric wavelength points out main advantages and drawbacks of each technology. To verify and to assess qualitatively the behavior of senors working in these spectral bands, we have collected data with 3 IR sensors and a passive millimeter wave (PmmW) imager. Priority was given to plastic AT mines and blast AP mines laid or buried in sand, compost or in grass. With the MIR and the FIR sensors used, most of the plastic mines were detectable when laid and unobscured. With the PmmW sensor the detection of laid mine is improved, compare to IR, and the number of false- alarms is reduced, but because of the better spatial resolution of IR sensors their classification capability is better than with the PmmW imager. Each technology can take benefits from the fusion or combination of IR and PmmW sensors. An attempt of data fusion at a pixel level is presented.
