Abstract

The need to achieve higher temperature performance from fluorescence-based optical thermometers has prompted the investigation of a range of rare-earth doped materials. In this work the characteristics of Nd³⁺, Er³⁺ and Tm³⁺-doped intrinsic fiber optic temperature probes are presented and evaluated. It shows that the Tm- doped fiber probe has out-performed in both the temperature sensitivity and the potential operational upper temperature limit.
