Abstract
A comparison of two complementary approaches to real-time digital image formation processing of multiple-look, strip-map synthetic aperture radar data is presented. Emphasis is placed on tradeoffs regarding memory and throughput requirements, as well as the complexity in the control and timing for each processor. It is shown that the well-known range dependence of the synthetic aperture length results in a special set of design considerations which are important if uniform azimuth resolution and ideal look registration are the primary design goals.
