Abstract
Vector coupled wave equations for reflection volume holograms recorded in non-uniform medium are deduced from Maxwell's equations. The diffraction efficiencies of s-polarization and p-polarization propagated in reflection volume holograms recorded in dichromated gelatin (DCG) are measured in detail. On the basis of the experimental data, the non-uniform models of the modulation of refractive index and variation of spatial frequency are established. A fair agreement between the theoretical previsions and the experimental results is achieved. It is shown that the vector coupled wave theory for reflection volume holograms in non-uniform medium is reliable in practice.
