Abstract
The results are presented of an experimental research and estimating modeling of kW-level CW CO2 laser focused beam penetration into liquid and sustaining keyhole (KH). The conditions of evaporative and turbulent convective heat losses from the KH surface to the bulk of the liquid were varied. A drastic dependence of KH depth upon heat exchange conditions was stated.
