Abstract
It is well known that propagation in an optical fiber alters the spectrum of ultrashort pulses due to the nonlinear interaction of the pulse with the fiber. The spectrum of the pulse as it emerges from the fiber depends on the input pulse parameters as well as the fiber parameters. We show by numerical analysis how this effect can provide a novel method to monitor with high sensitivity small relative changes in pulse characteristics of an ultrashort laser.
