Profile Summary

Chia-Ming Chang holds a B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering (National Taiwan University, 2002, 2004) and a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering (University of Illinois, 2011).He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the George E. Brown Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) laboratory at the University of Illinois since December, 2011. Prior to coming to the University of Illinois, Dr. Chang had served as a research assistant at the National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering and the Center of Earthquake Engineering at the National Taiwan University for two years.

Dr. Chang has research interests primarily in the areas of structural control, large-scale structural testing, earthquake engineering, structural health monitoring, and advanced technology of smart structures. His current research includes: advancement of hybrid simulation, new approaches for real-time hybrid simulation, advanced structural analysis using non-contact instrumentation, online feedback method for control of shake tables, control robustness in civil structures, and system identification toolbox for structural health monitoring. Moreover, Dr. Chang's previous research topics include: semi-active control strategies for buildings and bridges; dynamic characteristics of cable-stayed bridges; semi-active control implementation via a wireless sensing and control system; smart shape memory alloy damper; adaptive semi-active control for isolated buildings; multi-axial active isolation; system identification for complex structures; pseudo-dynamic hybrid testing of a four-span curved bridge; real-time hybrid simulation of smart outriggers for high-rise buildings; visualization of non-contact instrumentation measurements; multi-DOF high-precision positioning control for pseudo-dynamic testing.
