The multiplexing of Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) beams with different modes can greatly improve the communication capacity. Currently, a kind of OAM demultiplexing scheme based on a scattering medium diffuser and wavefront shaping using a phase mask is proposed, which can separate the OAM modes by controlling the focusing positions of different modal OAM beams flexibly. However, the phase mask is designed by optimization for single-mode OAM beam using Genetic Algorithm (GA) independently and superposition of sub-phases (PS-GA), therefore the demultiplexing has large intermodal crosstalk. In this paper we propose a modified algorithm to design the phase distribution of the phase mask, which is optimized by using the evaluation function derived from modal crosstalk matrix (CM-GA). The simulation results show that, compared with the PS-GA method, the detection probability is increased, and the intermodal crosstalk is reduced using CM-GA method.
