New light emitting materials and instrumentation for ionizing radiation detection, lighting, optical sensors and laser systems. Development of transparent ceramics and halide crystals offering high resolution for gamma spectroscopy. Plastic scintillators with modifications for improved utility in ionizing radiation detectors such as incorporation of high-Z constituents for gamma sensitivity and increased light yield by employing optimized fluors. Scintillator detector development for gamma spectroscopy, neutron detection and radiography. Development of new phosphors for fluorescent and solid-state lighting that reduce rare-earth content while providing high efficacy and desired white light spectra. New bright scintillator screens for X-ray and neutron imaging to increase signal-to-noise and enhance throughput while providing desired spatial resolution.
