Yuri O. Barmenkov received the Ph.D. degree in radiophysics and electronics from the Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State Technical University, Leningrad, Russia, in 1991. He was a Professor Assistant and then a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Experimental Physics, the St. Petersburg State Technical University, Russia, from 1991 to 1996. Since 1996, he has been a Research Professor at the Centro de Investigaciones en Optica, Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico; currently, he has taken the position of “Titular Investigator C” in the Center. He is a National Researcher (SNI-III), Mexico. He visited, for several periods, the Department of Applied Physics, the University of Valencia, Spain, as a Research Fellow, and the University of Joensuu, Finland, as a visiting scientist. He has authored or coauthored over 110 scientific papers and held three patents. His main research activity includes single-frequency, CW and Q-switched fiber lasers, fiber optic sensors, and nonlinear optics. He is a member of IEEE.
