AR devices are progressing towards all-day wearable glasses. Consumer market sets new requirements for diffractive waveguides and image sources. Weight and volume together with the form factor are critical factors for success. Laser beam scanning (LBS) based image sources are attractive candidates to minimize the projector volume without sacrificing the field of view. On the other hand, coherence of laser light and small beam size create new challenges for diffractive waveguides. Solutions enabling LBS compatible waveguides are discussed.
