Abstract
Modern long-distance detection of ships at sea mainly uses two major types of means: radar and infrared. In the field of ship stealth, in order to reduce the range and probability of being detected by radar, modern ships often adopt a large area of hull plate design with a certain inclination angle. This design is simple and clean, avoiding the exposure of external equipment, and making the ship's radar cross-sectional area smaller. However, the large-area inclined hull plate is more likely to be heated by external heat sources such as the sun, thereby increasing the range and probability of being detected by infrared devices. In order to analyze the influence of the hull plate inclination on the marine infrared and radar detection, this paper establishes the infrared and radar detection calculation model, taking into account the target characteristics, atmospheric transmission and other factors. On this basis, the influence of the hull plate inclination on the range of infrared and radar in different bands, under different pitch and elevation observation angles, and under different sea conditions is analyzed. Finally, considering the two major types of radar and infrared detection, the optimal range of inclination angles for the ship’s stealth is given.
