Abstract
The factory simulation plays an important role in factory design and the production line optimization. 3D modelling is a significant step of the factory simulation. Current modelling methods take many efforts to create a model which can barely be reused, so a 3D modelling system which is a module embedded in the factory simulation software was proposed. Based on the analysis of the model requirements in factory simulation, we combined ontology with variational design to describe a model, and the geometric implementation methods of the definitions in the ontology were given to produce a 3D model. In the end some models were created using the system to prove the design.
