1 July 1990 Recursive filters for fast B-spline interpolation and compression of digital images

Abstract
Signal processing concepts are used to study the problems of obtaining continuous image representations in terms of B-spline basis functions, and performing reconstructions at various magnifications. Filters that compute direct or indirect B-spline transformations are derived and characterized in terms of their z-transforms for polynomial splines of any order. Efficient recursive implementations of these operators are proposed. Recursive filters that efficiently solve the problem of approximating a signal through the use of least squares splines are also derived. This last procedure is analogous to the application of an anti-aliasing filter prior to decimation for the representation of a signal with fewer samples.
