Abstract
In recent years there has been a renewed interest in concrete aspects of Algebraic Geometry brought on by its applications to engineering and computer science. Especially for modeling problems it is useful to know whether a given algebraic curve or surface can be parametrized by rational or polynomial functions, and if so then how to find such a parametrization.
