Abstract
Optical fibers are protected with a variety of materials which act as buffers and jackets. These protective coatings enhance their handling characteristics as well as their resistance to various adverse environments. It is also known that these materials can have an effect on the optical performance of the fiber. This testing explored the effect of bending and temperature variations on the optical performance of fibers protected with various materials.
