Abstract

Flow cytometry is a popular biomedical tool used in both clinical medicine and research science. Current flow cytometers use laser light to illuminate particles in solution as they flow past a detector in a sheath fluid. This process requires vast amounts of fluids and technical expertise and is unacceptable for space science. Here, we present a design of a Closed Flow Cell^TM which eliminates most barriers to miniaturization and space science adaptation of flow cytometry.
