8 September 1995 Versatile high-performance infrared intrusion sensor for remote surveillance applications

Abstract
A high performance infrared intrusion sensor employing uncooled thin film resistance bolometer detector technology has been developed at the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. The sensor incorporates lightweight metal aspheric optics and novel digital signal processing to give a high detection probability at low false alarm rate. The equipment is robust, has excellent reliability and long life in field applications. It can operate in local attended mode or remotely with a dedicated communication link and network system, and can be integrated with existing unattended ground sensor (UGS) systems. The sensor is highly versatile, having applications in military remote surveillance, vital asset protection, and high grade security systems. Its performance has been demonstrated in a wide range of environments, from northern European winter to tropical Australian summer.
