Abstract
Among the potential materials for embedded actuators in composite smart structures, shape memory alloys are good candidates in many applications. Indeed they are able to produce large deformations and stresses. However, due to the complex and non linear behavior of these alloys, their use is often made by empirical way. The present paper gives some general results for the use of shape memory alloys in actuators.
