Abstract
In this contribution, it is shown that the drawbacks of the frequency-domain automatic focusing technique (FD-AFT) have been eased considerably when the scanned-frequencies are transmitted in a broad band pulse. While the focusing capabilities of the AFT are maintained, substantial reduction in data processing is obtained. In addition, it is shown that the nature of the pulse enables it to be tailored to further enhance the image quality. Simulation results are included to demonstrate the focusing capabilities of the procedure for both two and three-dimensional objects.
