30 April 1998 Wide-viewing-area glassless stereoscopic display using multiple projectors

Abstract
The stereoscopic display using a curved-directional- reflection screen is a promising approach towards realizing a 3D imaging system that does not require use of special glasses. However, the limited viewing area has been a drawback. In this paper, we describe how the viewing area can be made wider. Our system uses four sets of liquid- crystal projectors that provide four images corresponding to each viewing area. The viewing area is expanded about three times wider than that of a conventional system using two projectors. Especially if the viewer is sitting in a fixed chair, precise control of the viewer's position is not needed due to this wide viewing area.
