Abstract
The hardware structure of a nonlinear video-authoring system has been described in this paper. Employing TMS320C80, one of the most powerful multimedia video processors, a PCI- based real-time nonlinear video-authoring system has been built, which is also a general-purpose high-performance image/graphics processing platform. This system can decode and encode a standard composite/separate NTSC/PAL video signal simultaneously. Since TMS320C80 has a MIMD structure optimized for video processing and can do 2 billion RISC- like operations per second, a single-chip MVP is efficient to process the digital video/graphics data. By using AMCC S5933 as the PCI controller and synchronous bi-directional FIFO as the shared dual-port memory, a 66 MB/s bi- directional PCI data path is established between the PC host and add-in video-authoring system. Through the PCI interface, the authoring system can not only make convenient use of the rich resources of video and graphics already exist on PC, but also store the processed video data on hard-disk with Ultra SCSI interface in real time.
