Abstract
There is a potential to achieve increased safety and higher productivity in some real world applications (e.g., operations in harsh environment) by deploying mobile robots. Some of the tasks executed in such applications (e.g., mining) are time consuming which directly affect the operation productivity. The requirements for complex mechanical interactions with the unstructured environments and the need for operator skill and intuition preclude, at this stage, the possibility of full automation. In order to develop realistic alternatives to present day operations, telerobotics based on the concept of sensorimotor augmented reality for such applications has been favored. This telerobotic technique uses the intelligent mediation between the task specification and task execution to enhance operational efficiency using shared mode control.
