Abstract
We present a modulation scheme consisting of a fiber optic Sagnac interferometer which has an electro-optic modulator in the loop of the interferometer. Part of the output light intensity is captured by a photodiode, and the resulting electrical signal is amplified by a constant factor (xi) and reintroduced to the electrical modulating signal that is being applied to the Pockels cell. As a consequence, the intensity transfer function of the device can be drastically modified. Without the optoelectronic feedback loop, the device shows the very well known non-linear squared sinusoidal intensity transfer function. By properly choosing the amplifying factor (xi) , a more linear transfer function can be obtained. The theoretical and experimental examination of the device is presented.
