Abstract
Mode mismatched Thermal Lens (TL) measurements in Nd+3 doped fluoride glasses (ZBLAN and IGPZCa) and crystal (YLF) are reported. A nonlinear increase of the TL signal with excitation power was observed and attributed to energy-transfer upconversion. A theoretical model was developed to fit the experimental data, determine upconversion parameter (γ). The values obtained are in good agreement with previous fluorescence measurements.
