Abstract
Volumetric region growing among volume segmentations is an essential and important step in medical image processing. Conventional schemes are implemented on CPU with the 3D volume, but it can not fit the current processing units, such as GPU, which is good at texture mapping and parallel processing. In this paper, we present a novel volumetric region growing scheme based on texture mapping. According to the feature of texture mapping operations, the proposed scheme designs one texture chunk mapping operation to implement the volumetric seeded region growing. Every step growth is unified to one type of accordant texture mapping operation. Experimental results of image segmentation on volumetric medical CT data illustrate that the scheme can realize volumetric region growing for dividing the 3D CT dataset.
