Abstract
We will discuss recent progress in the synthesis and characterization of atomically thin noble metal structures, comprising a few atomic layers, and sustaining plasmons of high quality. These materials constitute a viable solution to the control of visible and near-infrared light over few-nanometer scales. We will further explore the ultimate limits of plasmon lifetime and spatial confinement, as well as applications to optical sensing and optoelectronics.
