Infrared Imaging System Operation
Abstract
An infrared imaging system consists of many subsystems. Each subsystem processes information differently and may create artifacts or variations in the processed image that were not present in the original scene. If not understood, these artifacts may be construed as data anomalies or, in an extreme, as a malfunctioning system. These artifacts include, but are not limited to, cosineNθ variation, AC coupling effects, phasing effects, incomplete gain/level normalization, line-to-line interpolation, and gamma correction. Through appropriate test design, the test engineer can minimize artifacts and interpret the data results correctly when the artifacts are present.
