Abstract
A study of the erbium-doped multicomponent glass fiber laser pumped by an argon ion laser is presented. Simultaneous laser oscillation in (a) the 1535- and 1550-nm bands and (b) 1550- and 1565-nm bands were observed, and the results indicate the possibility of achieving laser oscillations simultaneously at all three wavelength bands-of interest in telecommunications. Frequency shifts were observed by varying fiber lengths, and the relative intensity of the laser oscillations was found to depend on the input pump power.
