1 June 1996 Comparative studies of an electronic clipped correlator and an optical fiber fixed delays correlator

A comparative study of the electronic clipped correlator and a prototype fiber optic digital correlator (FODC) is presented. By eliminating the clock routing, the FODC can achieve higher speeds. Despite the fixed delay increment of the FODC concept, it is shown that it can still perform some other functions besides the correlation, such as multiscaling signal averaging, time-of-flight statistics, and probability analysis. The possibility of both correlators being used in tandem is also discussed.
