Profile Summary

Paul Foy is a consultant for the fiber optics and glass related industries.

Paul earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering (2008) from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Paul has worked in the fiber optics industry since 1986. He has constructed and developed more than 10 laboratories and production facilities dedicated to the synthesis, drawing and characterization of fiber optic materials. Paul has drawn a wide variety of glass and polymer optical materials included silica, fluoride, phosphate, chalcogenide, germanate, tellurite, calcium aluminate, and PMMA. Paul also has extensive experience in fabricating photonic crystal fibers.

Paul’s interests include the design and fabrication of specialty optical fibers and the equipment required for fabrication, optical fiber coatings, and the application of optical fibers for medical, telecommunications, military and sensing needs. Paul has over 100 technical publications and presentations. Paul was part of the research team that won a Research and Development 100 Award for Improved Optical Fiber for Laser Surgery Applications in 1995. He was also part of the team that won a 2017 PRISM Award for Mid-infrared supercontinuum generation up to 4.6 µm using step-index indium fluoride fiber pumped by a femtosecond fiber laser near 2 µm.
