With the aim of railway vehicles for light weight and energy saving, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. developed a new type of vehicle incorporating the bogie suspended gearless Permanent Magnetic Synchronous Motor (PMSM). To realize the safety and long-term wheel-rail force monitoring for the vehicle, a non-destructive IWS was proposed. The nondestructive IWS consists of an optimized strain gauge scheme to minimalize the crosstalk of each direction of wheel-rail force and the influence of contact point position, a bridging scheme to demodulate the continues wheel-rail force from the periodic rotated wheel, and a telemetry system to wireless transmit the signal to the data acquire system from the rotated wheelset. The proposed novel IWS was involved in the dynamic performance evaluation test, and the evaluation results shows that the vehicle fulfils the ride comfort and safety against derailment requirements of GB/T 5599-2019. The change of sprung or unsprung mass and bogie frame structure did not influence the dynamic behaviour of vehicle a lot.
