In order to accurately measure velocity and position of projectile when it flies through optical target in shooting range,
with studying the principle of intersection measuring system with dual linear CCD, the relationship between the imaging
position of object in CCD and the velocity and position of projectile was deduced. Aim at the problem of target
extraction in linear CCD image, some corresponding image processing algorithms such as background deduction,
interference target removal and imaging central position calculation were proposed. Finally the system was realized and
error analysis of various factors that will affect the measurement precision was carried out. Two intersection optical
targets were placed in parallel. The first target surface was used to measure coordinates of projectile and the boths were
used to measure speed of projectile. The experimental results show that error between the measurement value and the
calibration value is in acceptable range. The system can satisfy the requirement of velocity and position measurement of
projectile.
